A Missouri mum has spoken about the pain of seeing her son being killed in a drive-by shooting while on FaceTime with him.

Leslie Byrd said she is “struggling” but still has “the strength to go on” because she has “to do what’s necessary” following the death of her teenage son in the shooting incident in the city of St Louis in the US state of Missouri.

Jadun M. Byrd, 19, was killed in a car park on the morning of 2nd March after arranging to meet his mum.

The devastated mother said she was speaking to her son on FaceTime when she saw him draw his last breath.

She explained how he booked a Lyft cab to meet her, but ended up being taken to the wrong side of the building.

After he called her to explain the situation, she “heard the staff member (say) ‘they just shot that boy up’ and then somebody accidentally kicked the phone and I seen his head just roll and his hands curled up”.

She added that she does not believe he was the shooter’s target, adding: “They didn’t even rob him. They didn’t take anything from him. They just pulled up and shot and drove off”.

She advised other parents in St Louis to “gain control and love your children unconditionally”.

Byrd said: “Don’t try to force your children to be what you want them to be. Allow them to be who they need to be with just the appropriate guidance.”

The police investigation is ongoing.
