This is the moment a firefighter saws into a phone case and a five-month-old baby boy screams in terror as the blade inches closer to his trapped thumb.

The baby boy has been named as five-month-old Goktug Aydin Demir and the incident took place in Izmir, in Kocaeli Province, in north-western Turkey, with the baby boy’s unnamed parents calling the fire brigade after they were unable to remove the tot’s finger from the phone case themselves.

The footage shows the firefighter sawing through the phone case with an electric circular saw as the poor baby screams in terror – and no doubt pain as well – while being held in his mother’s arms. Local media speculated that it was the sound of the machine that was clearing him.

Eventually, the firefighter manages to remove the phone case without chopping the baby’s thumb off.

Goktug can be seen being held in the firefighter’s arms after the ordeal but he still appears to be recovering from his misadventure as he continues to wail loudly.

Newsflash obtained the images and a statement from the Kocaeli Fire Brigade, which said on Monday, 24th October: “Our firefighter rescued baby Goktug’s finger that was stuck in a phone case.”

But in the end, all was well and the young boy was uninjured.
