A stingy tourist drove away with a huge security gate stuck to his car after he tried to drive through it to avoid paying his motel bill.
Bizarre surveillance footage shows the alleged swindler travelling down the road with the mangled gate surrounding his car like a huge frame following his botched getaway.
The incident took place in Olinda, Pernambuco State, north-eastern Brazil on 16th October.
An employee of Tititi Motel told local media that a man and a woman checked in during the early hours and left at around 9.20am.
But rather than settle the room bill, the man apparently tried to make a hasty escape and drove straight through the closed security gate in his car.
However, instead of passing straight through, he tore it off its hinges and ended up driving down the road with it surrounding his vehicle.
The footage shows how he stops on the tarmac and drives back and forth to try to shed the obstacle.
He eventually gets rid of the gate but has by then ripped off his car’s front bumper.
A motel employee told local media that the man’s stay and extras were worth BRL 240 (GBP 41) and that the damage he caused totalled BRL 500 (GBP 86).
Police arrived on the scene in the wake of the incident but it was not clear at the time of reporting if they were actively investigating the case.
The identities of the man and his female companion are unclear.
