A 17-year-old mother has been stabbed to death as she slept alongside her three-month-old baby.

According to local media, teen mum Pamela Rodriguez was asleep in the house she shared with her mother Lorena and her brother in the department of Calingasta in the north-western Argentine province of San Juan.

It is alleged her 21-year-old ex-boyfriend, who lives next door, broke into the family home and attacked the teen victim with a small knife, according to reports.

Local media said the suspect encountered the teenager’s mother while trying to escape the home and she was pushed over and knocked unconscious.

The bleeding victim was still alive when the ambulance arrived to take her to hospital, but reportedly died while being treated by doctors.

In the ambulance, the teen’s thoughts were only for her baby.

Lorena told local media: “She was asking about her child and we all told her that she was all right.”

Police spokesperson Angel Gonzalez said the suspect had a restraining order against him.

However, as he lived next door the order was “ineffective”, according to Gonzalez.

Lorena claimed that the local authorities never took her daughter’s reports against her ex boyfriend seriously.

She said the couple broke up in December and that he allegedly tried to kill himself.

A psychologist told the victim to leave the home they shared, situated next door to her mum’s house, according to Lorena.

She said: “He was always bothering her, we filed a lot of reports because he used to beat her and they did nothing about it.

“She would be alive today if they gave the reports a bit more importance.”

Lorena also confirmed that the baby is healthy and that she will raise the child.

Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested as the investigation continues.
