Feminist Activist Mum Of 4yo Boy Murdered In Mexico

This 26-year-old feminist activist and mother has been found dead after she was reported missing at the end of last week.

The body of activist Isabel Cabanillas de la Torre was found in the city of Ciudad Juarez in the state of Chihuahua in northern Mexico.

According to local media, Cabanillas de la Torre who was the mother of a four-year-old son worked as an artist and clothing designer and campaigned against the sex trade.

The victim was reportedly found dead with several bullet wounds to her torso on Saturday morning after she was reported missing on Friday.

Reports said she belonged to the feminist association ‘Hijas de Su Maquiler Madre’ where she participated in several demonstrations against the murders and trafficking in women as well as capitalism.

The feminist association called a protest on Sunday to demand justice for the woman’s murder.

‘Hijas de Su Maquiler Madre’ wrote on social media: “We will be painting a mural and will carry out different artistic performances to protest for you and for what has been taken from us for this system that kills women. We are sorry you passed away and we will demand justice for you.”

Several people drew two murals to remember the activist and they also left a pink cross on a tree in the street where the victim was found murdered, according to local media.

The protesters also wrote posters with messages such as “Isabel lives, the fight continues” or “if one of us is attacked we all react”.

According to local media, 45 women were murdered between January 2018 and November 2019 in Ciudad Juarez.

No arrests have been reported in the case.
