This is the moment a bungling mother crashes her Mercedes-Benz into her daughter and sends her flying into a cabinet of post office letterboxes while reaching for a surgical mask in the back seat.

The heart-stopping accident, which fortunately led to no life-threatening injuries, happened at self-service post collection point in the city of Haining in East China’s Zhejiang Province.

Surveillance footage shows the Mercedes-Benz driven by mum Ms Zhu parking in front of the letterboxes before her eight-year-old daughter climbs out the back seat.

As the girl walks over to collect their post, the vehicle suddenly jolts forwards and crashes into her back.

The child is slammed into the frame of the postboxes and thrown to the ground as the Mercedes-Benz finally stops.

Haining police said Ms Zhu’s daughter suffered a broken leg but was not in any life-threatening condition.

The mum, who authorities said is an experienced driver of more than 20 years, claimed she was reaching for a surgical mask in the back seat when she accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal.

She told police: “I really don’t know how it happened!”

Local police did not say whether Ms Zhu would be fined for the incident, which is still being investigated.
