Taxi Driver Drags Cop While Fleeing From Checkpoint

This is the moment a cabbie drives into a cop at a checkpoint and ends up dragging him along the road.

The incident took place on Tomas Marsano Avenue in the district of Surco in the western Peruvian capital Lima during a routine traffic stop.

According to reports, the taxi driver tried to avoid the police checkpoint and injured a cop when he dragged the official along the road while accelerating away.

The officer fell to the ground and sustained an injury to his left hand, according to local media.

In the video, the cabbie is seen reversing away from the traffic stop and then accelerating into an approaching cop.

As the Toyota skids away, the officer appears to have his hand trapped and runs alongside the accelerating taxi before tumbling to the ground and nearly being run over by the back wheel.

According to local media, the police officer was transferred to the city’s National Police Hospital with an injured left hand.

Meanwhile, the police have identified the Toyota owner as taxi driver Jose Luis Espinoza Ataurima and said that he has been charged with four offences, including attempted murder and resisting arrest. It is unclear why he was avoiding the checkpoint.
