This is the moment an SUV driver suddenly stops on a motorway after missing a slip road, causing a heavy goods vehicle to skid and rear-end him.

The dramatic moment was captured by traffic cameras on the Rongcheng-Wuhai Expressway over the city of Laizhou in the port of Yantai in East China’s Shandong Province.

The footage dated 19th December shows the black SUV suddenly stopping in the middle of the motorway after appearing to drive past a slip road.

The dangerous manoeuvre catches the heavy goods vehicle operator completely unawares, and the driver is forced to slam on the brakes as the video shows.

The traffic camera footage shows the lorry driver veering the cabin to the right to avoid hitting the SUV, but the skidding trailer slams into the smaller car before stopping.

The SUV owner and the lorry driver both escaped unharmed, with reports saying they were lucky the heavy goods vehicle did not overturn.

It is unclear whether the police fined the SUV owner over the stunt, but reports have suggested he would be found fully liable for causing the accident.
