This footage shows a blood-covered suspect being taken away in handcuffs by LAPD officers who shot him as he was attempting to evade arrest for assault.

The incident took place in the city of Los Angeles, in the US state of California.

Newsflash obtained the footage from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), along with a statement that said: ” Southeast Patrol officers were conducting extra patrol in the area of Imperial Highway and Central Avenue, when they observed a male riding a bicycle who they believed matched the description of a suspect wanted for an Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

“As the officers approached the suspect to conduct an investigative stop, the suspect abruptly abandoned his bicycle and ran from the officers resulting in a foot pursuit.”

Body-worn footage shows the officers chasing the suspect, later identified as Victor Lopez, 37, when he suddenly begins shooting random shots in the officers’ direction.

Officer Luis Alvarez fired back and was able to strike Lopez, who refused to give himself up and scaled a fence before continuing to run.

The LAPD said: “The officers lost sight of the suspect, established a perimeter, and requested the assistance of Metropolitan K-9 units.

“During the search, it was discovered the suspect had barricaded himself inside a nearby business.”

The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team then responded to the scene and immediately located Lopez, the LAPD said.

In the footage, Lopez can be seen being surrounded by officers as he raises his arms in surrender while blood keeps gushing down his legs.

The SWAT team apprehended Lopez and took him into custody without further incident.

A handgun was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence, according to the statement.

Lopez was later taken to a local hospital to treat his injuries before being released for booking.

He is being charged with attempted murder and his bail is set at USD 1.2 million.
