This is the shocking moment a young woman falls over the railing at a shopping centre and plummets six floors to her death.
The incident in which she fell from the eating area of the Just Wraps food bar at the Citystars Shopping Mall in the Egyptian capital Cairo was caught on CCTV when it happened yesterday (Thursday) morning.
According to Gulf News, the 23-year-old woman fell six floors to the ground, shocking dozens of nearby shoppers in the huge shopping mall.
The woman, a recent dentistry graduate, was pronounced dead at the scene with CCTV camera footage seized by police to see if she jumped or if she lost her balance and fell.
The video that was shared on social media shows the young woman looking around to see if anybody is near before putting one leg on a chair and then after once more checking, before climbing over the barrier to fall to her death.
One man who appears to be a customer at the snack bar appears to want to rush over to stop her, but reacts too late.
The victim’s body has been taken to a forensics facility to undergo an autopsy.
It was confirmed that the young woman lived in the area, and investigators have seized nearby CCTV footage to confirm the moments leading up to the incident.
The police said they will also investigate whether the fall was intentional, due to a loss of balance or some other reason although from the footage it seems as if nobody else was involved.
Officers are reportedly taking statements from the woman’s friends and family members to establish the reason behind her apparent jump.
A shopping centre security worker told local media: “CCTV cameras picked up the woman walking into the mall. She stood around for three minutes then pulled up a chair, and then she jumped. It all happened in seconds.”
The worker added that as soon as the woman fell, he went directly to the police station in the shopping centre and shoppers were removed from the premises while an ambulance made its way there.
He said the ambulance arrived on the scene quickly and the woman was still alive at that point but died a short while later.
The investigation into her death is ongoing.
