This is the moment an umbrella being held by a security guard is vaporised into a ball of flames and sparks after being zapped by a bolt of lightning that caused the man holding it to collapse.

The incident, which the man incredibly survived, was filmed at a depot in the village of Sukapura in the district of Cilincing in the Indonesian city of North Jakarta in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta.

In the footage, the security guard is seen walking across an open courtyard with an umbrella when lightning suddenly strikes him down.

A dazzling shower of sparks fills the air as the man falls to the ground and barely moves as colleagues then rush to his aid.

The victim Abdul Rosyid, 35, was patrolling the depot with a radio transmitter and umbrella when the bolt of lightning zapped him in the open courtyard.

He remained motionless on the ground as colleagues arrived on the scene and arranged for him to be taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police spokesperson Iptu Alex Chandra confirmed the incident and said the security guard was treated at Port Medical Centre in North Jakarta City, adding that he was holding a radio at the time of the lightning strike and that he has since been allowed home after four days of care.
