This dashcam video shows a cheeky motorist trying to force his way between two cars by opening his driver’s side door – before the vehicle behind him completely ignores the stunt and drives into it.
The bizarre moment was captured on the streets of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province in East China, on 31st December 2019.
The dashcam footage shows numerous cars occupying the left-turn lane of Jinbo Road as they approach a red light at the junction with Zhushan Road.
The motorist in a black saloon tries numerous times to cut in front of the dashcam vehicle and merge into the left-turn lane, but the driver does not let him through.
Instead of attempting to merge at another spot, the stubborn saloon owner drives up to the gap between the two stopped cars and tries to occupy the space by opening his driver’s side door.
This is done right behind a police car, and under the apparent assumption that the dashcam vehicle will not drive forwards when the lights turn green, allowing him to cut in.
But the man’s plan fails miserably when the dashcam car continues straight through his door, breaking it at the hinges and leaving it swinging open.
The clip ends with a traffic cop walking over from the crossroads and appearing just as perplexed while inspecting the damage.
Nanjing authorities are understood to be investigating the case.
It was not immediately clear how much responsibility each motorist would share over the incident.
