This is the moment an alleged insurance scammer pretends to be hit by a turning car and lies down in the middle of a busy road.

The bizarre scenes were recorded by a CCTV camera in the city of Verona in northern Italy’s Veneto region and came to light after the unnamed man allegedly tried to claim money from the ‘accident’ on insurance.

In the video, the pedestrian can be seen walking on a crossing when he appears to slap his hands on a passing Fiat Panda.

The driver begins to stop and the pedestrian then slowly drops to the ground, where he remains lying on the tarmac whilst the driver pulls over.

Local media report the pedestrian was later taken to hospital but doctors did not find any injuries. The man reportedly tried to claim money on insurance from the accident and the police tried to reconstruct the incident.

However, when they saw the CCTV footage they reportedly realised it was an alleged scam.

It is unclear if the alleged scammer may face punishment over the incident.
