Royal Dutch Teen Splashed Over Front Page For Smoking

A royal teen who appeared on the cover of a popular magazine with a cigarette in her mouth has described how the situation made her feel uncomfortable and has asked to be allowed to enjoy her life.

The 18-year-old Countess Countess Eloise van Oranje, who is the first child and daughter of Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands, was snapped smoking a cigarette in the dutch capital of Amsterdam where she is currently studying at the Hotel school.

The image was pictured on the front page of the national weekly magazine Weekend with the title: “Constantijn and Laurentien’s daughter, Eloise, enjoys college life.”

The young countess, who is a member of the Dutch royal family and currently fifth in line to the Dutch throne, wrote on her official Instagram page saying: “I think some of you have seen the articles. I think it’s so strange to experience. And it makes me uncomfortable just to be photographed.”

Eloise added that she does not understand how smoking one cigarette is seen as news and that “she just wants to enjoy her life”.

According to national news outlet destentor, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien spoke out about the incident saying that they were not happy with the publication of the photo.

Reportedly, although the media code does not apply to the young countess, her parents do not agree with the photos being shared with the outside world.

According to national news portal Shownieuws, they announced: “Eloise is primarily a private person with associated rights to privacy. We expect these to be respected.”
