Suspect Arrested In Netherlands For Killing Pregnant Lover

A man who allegedly shot his pregnant lover  dead after kicking down her door when she threatened to tell his wife about the baby has been arrested by Dutch police.

The crime happened at the apartment of the victim, Naomi van den Berg, 35, in the city of Arnhem, in the eastern Netherlands province of Gelderland.

According to national newspaper ad.nl, the suspect, named Gerrit Hoekstra, 46, was believed to be maintaining an extramarital affair with mother-of-two Naomi, until she got pregnant.

He had then tried to distance himself from her fearing his wife would find out.

Reportedly, a friend of the victim said Naomi sent her various messages on Facebook, some of which were published on social media, saying “I’m not allowed to talk about it, he scared me” and “he wants to kill me because his wife is not allowed to know”.

Naomi also told the police about the threats she was receiving, according to ad.nl,

Neighbours of the victim report seeing the alleged aggressor wandering around in front of her flat in a rage and repeatedly ringing her doorbell, according to ad.nl.

The neighbours said they then heard the door being kicked in and angry shouts from inside Naomi’s flat.

After that, they heard screams, five shots and then silence. The emergency services were called and Naomi was rushed to hospital but died shortly afterwards.

Police spokesman Ronald van der Leeden confirmed that they were contacted by the victim saying_: “She indicated that she was being threatened. The police receive these cases very regularly, and we carefully make a professional assessment every time.

“We cannot go deeper into all the questions because of the ongoing investigation, but also because we have a legal and moral obligation to protect the privacy of those involved.”

The suspect, from Rheden, was captured in Lisse on Tuesday evening and will reportedly be brought to court today.
