The rotting dead body of a lion found on a Mexico City street has finally been removed after a resident complained that the authorities had ignored it for over a week.
The male lion’s lime-covered body was found in the neighbourhood of San Sebastian Tecoloxtitlan in the borough of Iztapalapa in the Mexican capital Mexico City.
Agents from the Animal Vigilance Brigade (BVA) of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) removed the dead animal from Claudio Alcocer Street on 19th February.
It is unclear when the lion died, but netizen ‘Nanoo_07’ posted a tweet with pictures of the big cat on 18h February, criticising the authorities for refusing to act sooner.
The netizen wrote: “Any authority who can help us, this lion was left on the street, it has been there for over one week and the authorities do not help in removing it in any way, let’s hope someone can help us.”
The lion’s body was taken to a facility of the Federal Attorney of Environment Protection (Profepa) which is now leading an investigation.
However, there have been no reports on the mysterious origins of the lion or how its carcass ended up on the street.
