A 64-year-old British man has been found sleeping rough and “loitering” around a Bali town after being robbed several weeks ago.

The Brit, identified as Michael Wilkinson, has been staying in the village of Jimbaran in the regency of Badung on the Indonesian island of Bali without any money or ID following the alleged robbery.

The head of the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in Badung, Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara, said: “The foreign national did not carry his identity cards. Based on his statement, he was robbed about three weeks ago.”

Suryanegara added that the Brit “has been wandering around” since the robbery, but never “reported it to the local authorities”.

The Satpol PP head said that Wilkinson has been loitering and begging for food from local residents after running out of money and having nowhere else to go.

The Public Order Agency is authorised to detain people caught loitering under a 2016 regulation issued by the Badung regent.

Wilkinson reportedly arrived in Indonesia on 6th March and is currently being detained at immigration while the British consulate processes his emergency travel documents.

Suryanegara said that his team has dealt with six cases involving foreign nationals who had run out of money in Bali this month.

He added that anyone in this position should file a report with the local authorities so they can offer assistance and possibly prevent related crimes.
