Onlookers were left in shock after they witnessed a reflective tape dropping from the sky and bursting into flames when it touched a power line.
Smartphone footage captured in the Shapingba district, in China’s city of Chongqing, depicted the tape falling from the sky out of nowhere on the afternoon of 24th March.
Then just moments later the tape can be seen dropping straight onto a power line. And immediately igniting upon contact, startling passersby who observed the scene.
Social media user ‘Ye Zimu’ who recorded the scene and shared the clip on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, said: “I originally wanted to take a photo to see what was floating in the air, but I was shocked.”
The clip prompted an avalanche of reactions from netizens who could not refrain from commenting after ‘Ye Zimu’ posted it online.
Douyin user ‘Wind’ said: “Suddenly realised that these kinds of power lines are usually electrified!”
Then sure ‘Not fishy’ commented: “The most annoying thing in the high-voltage industry is kites, kite strings, balloons, and the like.”
And ‘ Pick up light’ added: “This video tells us that the wind is free, and so are you. Once you are bound, you will explode on the spot.”
The video has reached more than 27,000 likes and over 34,000 shares as of 25th March.
