This is the moment a crook accidentally winds up inside a police station compound after he was allegedly caught burgling a home and escaped by climbing over the nearest wall not realising it led to a cop shop.
The suspect surnamed Cheng, who has priors for theft, was caught red-handed by the homeowner in Xiao County in China’s eastern province of Anhui Province.
CCTV footage from the Yanglou Police Station shows Cheng managing to remain calm as he finds himself strolling past doors clad with police titles and insignias, and a car park with service vehicles in it.
Cheng picks up the pace and walks straight out the front gate, but he is quickly escorted back inside by two uniformed officers who find him suspicious.
According to the police, the cops questioned Cheng at the gate and he said he was there to apply for household registration.
Around the same time, however, the police station received a call from the homeowner next door who claimed to have been burgled.
Cheng confessed to attempting to burgle the home, saying he and homeowner ended up face to face when the resident returned unexpectedly, the police said.
The crook said he had not scouted out the location and chose it at random, they added.
Cheng remains in custody while investigations continue.
He is not thought to have made off with anything valuable.
