This is the moment a lorry trailer sticking up in the air collides with a motorway bridge at high-speed after a motorist behind tried to alert the HGV driver.

The incident happened on a road near the Russian village of Podymalovo located in the Bashkortostan region when the driver of the other vehicle who is filming the incident tries to stop the lorry,

But as the footage shows, the driver of the red MAN lorry carries on with his trailer raised and speed unchecked before coming to an instant stop as it crashes into the bridge.

It is unclear why the trailer managed to raise without the driver being aware, but it is believed a faulty mechanism was responsible for it opening up while he was driving.

Engineers are currently checking the bridge for any structural damage following the massive collision, which also cause delays on the road while the cheque was going on.

Police said the driver survived but was hospitalised and confirmed he is being investigated for failing to secure the safety of his vehicle and negligence resulting in damaging public property.

Online commentators meanwhile lined up to complain about the low standard of lorry drivers on the roads, with one pointing out that in Soviet times only professional drivers were allowed to drive lorries, yet now, it seemed, anybody could have a go.
