This is the moment a quick-thinking young woman prevents a car from being set alight as filming onlookers panic and shout but otherwise do nothing from the safety of their balcony.

The incident was filmed on Shkolnaya Street in the city of Novomoskovsk in the western Russian region of Tula Oblast, and the footage was widely shared on social media.

In the video filmed from a resident’s upper-floor window, black smoke is seen bellowing from a parked car on street level.

As the filming couple speak in panicked tones and remain in their flat without doing anything to help, a young woman is seen crossing the road towards the apparently burning vehicle.

She appears to pull away a burning tree item that had been placed under the car before collecting snow in her hands and using it to extinguish the rest of the burning material under the vehicle.

According to local media, a group of people were seen trying to burn the car shortly beforehand.

It is unclear whether the local authorities are investigating the incident.

Netizen ‘Noname Noname’ commented: “Women like her deserve a lot of respect.”

‘Svidetel’ said: “The thugs who set the car alight should be punished and their parents should get a hefty fine. People should take more responsibility for their children’s behaviour.”
