Promising Mexican boxer Ivan ‘Sinrics’ Ramirez has been found hanged in his home in a suspected case of suicide.

The 24-year-old was found hanging from a noose in the city of Merida in the state of Yucatan in southeastern Mexico by his family.

The family alerted the authorities who have launched an investigation while local media report he had been out with some friends on Wednesday who had not detected anything unusual in his behaviour.

Light-flyweight Ramirez had a record of 14 wins (six by knockout) and one defeat, had been classified by the World Boxing Council (WBC) some months ago and had his first international fight in December 2018, defeating Venezuelan fighter Nohel Arambulet by unanimous decision.

His promoter Andrew Perez told Efe: “At the moment I don’t have the head to think about that guy and his family, about the sorrow and bitterness that are going through, just like us.”

Ramirez’s last fight came in March when he defeated Ulises ‘Condorito’ Martin by a comfortable decision in the city of Merida. The young fighter was reportedly preparing to fight in Asia in the coming months.

The investigation is ongoing and there have been no reports of suspicion of foul play in Ramirez’s death.
