This pretty 19-year-old girl almost had her entire scalp ripped off in a go-karting accident after her long hair got caught in one of the tyres of her vehicle.

Teenager Debora Oliveira was participating in a go-kart race in Boa Viagem, in the city of Recife, in the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco when the incident happened.

Local media reported that Oliveira lost control of the vehicle and crashed “at least three times”.

In the midst of the impact, her hair fell from her helmet and got stuck in one of the tyres, according to reports.

The force of the traction reportedly pulled her hair and almost ripped off her entire scalp.

Oliveira told local media: “I was sitting and I felt a yank. Later, I think I took off the helmet and the seat belt and stood up. I was bleeding. I got horrified and started screaming.”

The teen was then rushed to the Hospital of Restauracion of Recife, where she underwent reconstructive surgery which took five hours, with hair and skin transplants included.

Local media report that the operation helped her to recover 80 percent of the injured area.

She is also expected to remain in a recovery process which could last until 2021.

Meanwhile, the community of Pernambuco Indoor Kart Challenge, which has been in charge of the organisation of the tournament for the last 15 years, started to collect donations for Oliveria.

They managed to raise 50,000 BRL (9,815 GBP).

The Walmart shop where the race took place, sent out a press statement saying: “We regret this and we are in contact with the family to give the victim the needed assistance.”

Oliveira paid 100 BRL (19.6 GBP) to take part in the race where she went with her boyfriend and her mother-in-law.

When she got into the go-kart, her hair was reportedly long enough to reach her hips.

There are no reports of any investigations concerning the incident.
