This is the moment a male driver who is reportedly asleep at the wheel smashes into two women waiting for a bus – sending a 67-year-old woman flying through the air a week before her birthday
The incident was filmed by a mounted CCTV camera in the western-central Colombian department of Quindio while 67-year-old victim Yamila Arroyo, who was due to celebrate her 68th birthday next week, was waiting for a bus with an unnamed friend.
The shocking footage shows the car ploughing directly into Arroyo, who is sent flying through the air.
As the elderly woman lies motionless on the pavement, her friend sits on a wall and then lies on the ground, reportedly after having suffered minor injuries. The driver can seemingly be seen getting out of the vehicle and walking to the woman on the ground.
According to the regional transport secretary Debbie Duque, the unnamed motorist fell asleep at the wheel before the accident happened.
The motorist reportedly underwent an alcohol test and the result was negative.
The elderly victim hit her head after being struck by the speeding car and died in hospital hours later, according to local media.
Her friend reportedly suffered minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
