A Mexican politician has been dumped by his party after pictures showing him kissing his young daughter on the lips led locals to call for an investigation into sex abuse.

The controversial pictures were reported to the authorities after they were widely shared on social media in Mexico on Tuesday 16th February.

The family photos were first shared by Jose Elias-Medel Galindo who is seen pictured with his young daughter, age and name not disclosed.

Several pictures show Galindo celebrating Valentine’s Day with his daughter and they are seen kissing on the lips after he gave her roses, chocolates, and toys.

One image shows the shirtless politician in his bed with his daughter, which he captioned: “Nothing better than waking up and reciting poetry with my daughter.”

Galindo also referred to his daughter as “the woman who will always love me” in several captions, which were also found to be inappropriate by some.

Local media said the snaps caused outrage and locals are now asking for Galindo be investigated for possible paedophilia.

Local media said the snaps caused outrage among several feminist groups which helped circulate the pictures online.

Galindo, who was a member of the centre-left party Citizens’ Movement (MC), was selected as a pre-candidate to become a local representative of the seventh district in the city of San Martin Texmelucan de Labastida in the Mexican state of Puebla.

However, the MC party has since removed their support for Galindo as they believe he has lost the backing and trust of the community, according to an official statement yesterday (17 February).

The politician held a press conference alongside his daughter denying the accusations and claiming it was an intentional political attack.

He said: “I say to my critics, do to me what you will. I am a man with infinite errors, but leave my family out of it. I believe and am totally convinced that even politics must have respect.

“There is a line called family and that cannot be crossed, even more so when the person being harmed is a minor.”

He added several of the pictures dated back 10 years and accused people of only sharing the ones picturing him kissing his daughter and not the rest.

It is unclear if the authorities plan to investigate Galindo for child abuse.
