An Islamist politician who once gave a reception to visiting preacher Wagdy Ghoneim – who was kicked out of the UK in 2009 for “seeking to foment, justify or glory terrorist violence” – has been accused of hypocrisy after he was spotted dancing with a busty blonde actress.

Abdelfattah Mourou, 72, is a lawyer and founder of the Islamist Ennahdha Party where he is regarded as a moderate, however as a key religious figure many of his supporters were shocked to see him dancing with a woman who was not his wife or a member of his family.

Former parliamentarian Mohamed Naguib Kahila, wrote: “Abdelfattah Mourou is one of the key figures who used to preach to us and appeal to religious sentiments, demanding fear of God, purity of heart and chastity.

“Yet here he appeared in a way contrary to what we would have expected, and contrary to his social and political standing.”

He is also the first deputy speaker of the Tunisian government’s legislative body the Assembly of the Representatives of the People.

However, local media could not help but report under the headline “shaikh that belly” when he was pictured dancing with blonde actress Meriem Ben Moulehem as she celebrated her engagement.

She is not only a popular actress, but also a social media influencer who is well known for her appearances in videos and photos with other celebrities.

The picture of the two dancing was shared by the blonde star for her 173,000 Instagram followers showing them holding hands as they were dancing.

Underneath the picture she wrote: “It was an honour to me that Shaikh Abdelfattah Mourou and his son attended my engagement party. I would also like to thank his virtuous wife who I adore.

“Whoever is trying to create envy and malice, collapse and die. I am the queen.”

Some of the critics slammed her for sharing the picture, claiming she was obviously trying to stir up controversy.

However, others criticised him, saying that given his position in society as a cleric, rights activist and politician, he should have been more careful.

Activist Rashid Soleimani wrote: “How come Professor Abdelfattah Mourou allowed himself to reach this level? What does he want to convey to us? This is recklessness and an offence to his age and stature far from what God and His Messenger commanded us to do.”
