A stash of cannabis worth nearly GBP 700,000 has been seized by police in a raid on a freight warehouse in Germany.
The haul – weighing 84 kilogrammes (185 lbs) – had been sent from Spain and was being held at the warehouse in the municipality of Anroechte, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, to be sent onwards.
Customs drugs transport experts from the Traffic Routes Control Unit found the stash hidden in vacuum-sealed bags and packed inside cardboard boxes, according to officials.
The police had been tracking the shipment and raided the warehouse as it arrived on 27th July.
The drug stash – estimated at a value of EUR 800,000 (GBP 682,748) – belonged to a freight forwarder from the nearby town of Werl, and was intended for the German market, reports claimed.
Bielefeld Main Customs Office spokesperson Ralf Wagenfeld said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “The delivery that came from Spain was supposed to be transported forward from Werl.”
The case has been transferred to Essen Customs Investigation Office and Arnsberg Public Prosecutor’s Office for further investigations.
