The 32-year-old trainee nurse – named only as Kiki from the city of Schwaebisch Gmuend – had been dead for several days when her body was discovered on Wednesday, 23rd August.

Police say she had suffered a “violent death” at the Stuttgart Clinic training hospital.

Her former boyfriend Claudius Schwierz, 39, was arrested after an autopsy two days later confirmed she had been killed.

Stuttgart Police Headquarters said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “The background to the crime, in particular the suspect’s motives, are the subject of further investigations.

“Apparently, the victim and the suspect had a previous relationship.

“Based on the evidence, we assume that the woman was the victim of a homicide.”

Criminal director Swen Eckloff added: “Our investigations, which were carried out under high pressure, have had an effect.

“It is a great success that we were able to arrest the suspect so quickly.”

Neighbours described Schwierz as a withdrawn loner.

One told German media: “He left a shy impression, lived alone and withdrawn in the house.

“He didn’t even show up for a street festival organised by the neighbours.”

Kiki’s disappearance first came to light after a friend told police she hadn’t heard from her in days.

The last thing she had said- according to the friend – was that she was in the mood for a night out clubbing.

One friend said Kiki – who worked treating cancer patients – had a busy social life.
