An convicted criminal who failed to show up to prison was left flailing around screaming after he tried to jump out a window when cops kicked in his door but landed on a wasps’ nest.

The incident happened when two police officers went to home address of the 32-year-old man who lived in Emma-Ritter-Weg Street in the German city of Oldenburg in Lower Saxony.

It was not revealed what crime he was sentenced to 11 months for, or why he failed to turn up to start the sentence, but an arrest warrant had been issued for him.

Officers turned up, and the man who was not named for legal reasons was apparently unimpressed that discovering them at his door, and attempted to escape by jumping from his balcony several metres onto a bush below.

He was however unaware that the bush contained the wasp nest which was completely destroyed, and resulted in being attacked by the stinging insects.

A police spokesman said: “The man was screaming, and flailing around with his fists.”

He ran out of the garden straight into the arms of police officers, but as he was still surrounded by a swarm of wasps, they were forced to let go and the man ran off, still pursued by the wasps, into another garden belonging to a local nursery, where he jumped into a children’s paddling pool.

From there he was later arrested by police, and taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries. The police officers also received some minor stings but it was the suspect who bore the brunt of the wasps anger at the destruction of their nest.

He was taken to the jail hospital to be treated for his injuries.
