This is the moment a pensioner commuting home is run over by a bus whose female driver allegedly mistakes the accelerator for the brake.

Security footage from the city of Pingxiang, which is in East China’s Jiangxi Province, shows the 70-year-old victim standing at the door of the number 3 bus while waiting to get on on 13th August.

The out-of-control route 3 bus then suddenly speeds into view, running him over and slamming into the side of the number 19 bus in the process.

CCTV video shows two women just managing to escape, with one successfully boarding the bus and the other somehow outrunning it before it crashes into nearby railings.

The pensioner, however, was fatally crushed underneath the number 3 bus and declared dead at the bus stop near the city’s Anyuan Square.

Pingxiang traffic police, who are still investigating the case, said the crash was caused by the female driver’s “improper” operation of the vehicle.

Security footage shows her having stopped the bus and even unbuckled her seat belt to prepare to get off.

But when she notices her bus rolling forwards, she tries to stop it but ends up rushing forwards, crashing the vehicle instead.

The authorities allege she mistook her accelerator for the brake in the moment of panic.

The city’s public transport provider said it was meeting with the victim’s family.

So far no arrests have been announced by local police.
