This is the moment a driver loses control and crashes into a parked car – sending their own car tumbling onto the pavement and narrowly missing passing pedestrians.

The startling scenes were recorded by a CCTV camera in the Uskudar district located in the Asian side of the city of Istanbul, Turkey’s most populous city.

In the video, the driver of a black car loses control of the vehicle and crashes into a parked car.

The black car is sent flying through the air, twisting upside down as it hurtles towards a pair of passing pedestrians.

Fortunately, the barriers of a stairwell stop the cars from hitting the pair although one of them is knocked to the ground by a piece of flying debris.

The undercarriage of the black car then sets on fire and onlookers can be seen trying to help the release the driver and the female passenger trapped inside.

They cannot appear to pull the door open but it is eventually inside and local media report the two people inside the car managed to escape while onlookers put the fire out with fire extinguishers.

It is unclear if anybody was seriously injured in the incident.
