According to reports, outraged netizens reported the video to the local authorities who acted quickly to track down the biker, identified as Fang Moumou.

Before the incident took place, the local police were reportedly carrying out helmet checks in the city and even came across one biker who used a bin as a safety helmet.

In the video footage, the man is seen wearing a matching yellow raincoat while riding along the road with the green and yellow watermelon rind on his head.

To give the makeshift helmet an aesthetic touch, the biker appears to have fashioned a rind crown to go around the fruity headgear.

Meanwhile, he is carrying a female passenger who also seems to be without a helmet, watermelon or otherwise.

According to local media, the police tracked down Moumou the following day and fined him 200 RMB (23 GBP) while adding two penalty points to his licence.

In China, motorcyclists are required to wear helmets in big cities such as Beijing but the police rarely enforce the law, according to reports.
