This is the moment a bungling driver confuses the pedals beneath his feet and ploughs into a Hyundai car dealership while test-driving a vehicle.

In the video, inexperienced motorist Mr Shen is seen pulling into the dealership car park when, instead of slowing down, he suddenly speeds up and careers through the glass doors.

The loud crash echoes through the showroom in the city of Qidong, which is in East China’s Jiangsu Province, leaving staff members covering their ears and running away on the morning of 18th August.

Mr Shen slams into a row of tables and crashes to a stop against a glass cubicle, the video shows.

Authorities said Mr Shen crashed the test vehicle – a model ix35 – into another parked vehicle in the dealership.

Mr Shen told police: “I was preparing to stop, but stepped on the accelerator pedal instead of the brake.”

Officers said he was not familiar with how to operate the 4WD.

Qidong police have revealed Mr Shen only received his licence in March, and that he was still in his one-year probation period.

His licence has been suspended while investigations continue. It is unclear if Mr Shen will have to pay for the test drive vehicle.
