OH CRUMBS: North Carolina Woman Wins USD 2 Million Lottery Prize While Out Shopping For Biscuits

A woman in North Carolina has won USD 2 million playing the lottery while out shopping for biscuits.

Amelia Estes, 51, of the city of Thomasville in Davidson County, in the US state of North Carolina, was out shopping for biscuits on a routine Saturday morning when she found out she had one USD 2 million (GBP 1.6 million).

Newsflash obtained s statement from the North Carolina Education Lottery on Thursday, 19th January, saying: “A routine Saturday morning stop for biscuits turned ‘surreal’ for Amelia Estes of Thomasville after a USD 20 [GBP 16.21] scratch-off purchase revealed a USD 2 million prize.”

Estes said: “I looked and looked and my hands just started shaking.”

She added: “It was surreal.”

The statement said: “Estes, 51, bought her lucky 100X The Cash ticket from Sam’s Mini Mart on West Green Drive in High Point. She bought the ticket after stopping at Biscuitville on Saturday [14th January].”

Estes said: “Something was just telling me to go get that ticket.”

The statement added: “She said she gave her mom the good news as soon as she got home.”

Estes explained: “I came into the house real quiet and I told my mom, ‘I think we’re millionaires.’”

She added: “She was already sitting down, thank goodness.”

The lottery statement said: “When Estes arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to collect her prize, she could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of USD 100,000 [GBP 81,015] over 20 years or a lump sum of USD 1.2 million [GBP 972,000].

“She chose the lump-sum amount of USD 1.2 million and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home USD 855,006 [GBP 691,905].”

Estes said: “We are going to plan for a comfortable retirement now.”
