A Malaysian woman has been slammed online for echoing George Floyd’s famous last words “I can’t breathe” to help her sell an air purifier online.

The incident occurred when netizen ‘Angie Ng’ posted the advert for an SK Magic Air Purifier on Facebook.

In the post, the woman made reference to Floyd being killed in eight minutes and 46 seconds, writing: “George Flolyd – 8mins is what is takes for air for a life. ‘ Mama I can now breathe. skMagic Air Purifier. (sic)”

She added her phone number for those who wanted to buy the purifier but reportedly decided to remove the advert after being slammed by other netizens for being insensitive to Floyd’s death.

She initially told local media she thought the criticism was “oversensitive” and stressed she just wanted to highlight the “importance of good air quality”.

However, she then wrote an apology, saying that she did not intend “to hurt anyone” and said she was stressed by Malaysia’s coronavirus lockdown or Movement Control Order (MCO).

She admitted she used the wrong words to try to sell the purifier but some netizens did not accept the apology.

‘Punita Nook Naidu’ wrote: “I am speechless and disgusted.”

‘Qyla Rosli’ added: “Hope she uses that air purifier to purify her stupidity and lack of sensitivity.”

And ‘Fahmi Amin’ commented: “Don’t use ‘MCO’ to cover your insensitivity and idiocy.”
