A man who fled while thugs tortured his stepdaughter and his wife before executing them gangland-style is being investigated by police in Brazil.
Victims Daniele Richalski Favaro, 41, and her 17-year-old daughter Emillyn Richalski Tracz were forced to kneel as two thugs shot them in the head.
They were killed after Emillyn suffered agonising torture while the two home invaders stabbed her repeatedly and then broke her arm.
Media in Campo Largo reported that the gunmen had been trying to get information from Daniele’s husband’s phone but she did not know the PIN.
Police believe they had been planning to use data in the phone to transfer money from the husband’s car business.
The husband – who has not been named by police – fled through a window as soon as the gunmen got into the family home in the early hours of 12th January.
Investigators have made it clear they do not believe his claim that it was a random crime.
Homicide investigator Rodrigo Podegurski told local media: “He says he jumped out the window and heard people asking for the victims’ mobile phones, then he heard the shots.
“We began the investigation and I talked to him.
“It was an unconvincing conversation because no one arrives wearing masks at 2am, putting their foot in the door and executing people to take their mobile phones, something is wrong with this story.”
He went on: “It was a crime, first of all, from what we are noticing, of property.
“They wanted the mobile phone to have a password for a future PIX [electronic money transfer], and delving deeper, we already know that Daniele’s husband works with cars.
“So it could be that a car sale triggered this situation.”
And he said of Emillyn’s brutal torture “It was shown that Emillyn had a broken arm, related to the torture, as well as knife marks on her body.
“They kept torturing this girl with small stab wounds, indicating that they were doing it to try to get something out of her mother.
“They were forcing the mother to give them something. It could be something related to a bank transaction, or some more relevant information.”
Both women were shot gangland-style in the back of the head as they knelt on the floor.
Two young nieces survived the bloodbath because they hid in a bathroom, reported local media.
The investigation continues.
