This is the moment a quick-thinking driver slams into a gun-wielding mugger who suddenly approaches his slow-moving car after loitering on the side of the road in South Africa.
Dashcam footage from the motorist’s car shows how the young black man suddenly gets up after sitting on the crash barrier at a crossroads on a bridge in the metropolitan area of Cape Town.
The traffic lights at the crossroads can be seen constantly blinking yellow.
The driver, who is relaxedly chatting on the phone before the collision, swerves to the left to hit the felon before the footage ends.
Netizens unanimously praised the motorist, named Mario Paul Campbell in local media, for his action in the incident on 4th October.
User ‘Xolani Stemela’ exclaimed: “I love this, I just love it.”
Another one, ‘Moegammad Jamiel Adams’, claimed: “Nice! Everyone should do this!”
‘Nolie Fani’ commented: “A job well done.”
And ‘Lungie Vivy Maxhanga Sigwiji’ argued: “He deserved it.”
Mario’s car has not been badly damaged, according to local media.
The gun-wielding youngster was reportedly dragged to the side of the road by a pal following the failed holdup.
The video appeared on 9th October on the social media account of the transportation company ‘SA Truck King. We are trucking’.
Its caption reads: “Hi everyone, just thought I would share as we head into the new week. Please be aware on Mew Way heading to the N2 or R300, especially if you’re driving a marked company vehicle.”
The author added: “This was my second incident on this stretch since June this past Wednesday morning. They seem to be targeting marked vehicles because they know we have company laptops etc. Safe week ahead.”
It is unclear whether Mario wrote the text.
There have been no reports concerning a possible police investigation of the incident.
Law enforcement authorities in South Africa’s megacities and their suburbs have been struggling for decades to lower the numbers of street crimes.
