Motorist Drives Straight Into River After Misjudging Right Turn

A bungling motorist was caught on video suddenly losing control of their vehicle while trying to make a sharp turn and ending up in the nearby river.

The incident, reportedly taking place in Jieyang, in China’s southern Guangdong Province, was filmed by street surveillance cameras on the afternoon of 16th January.

In the video, a white van is seen travelling downwards from a main street.

As the driver tried to turn sharply to the right and avoid a tall curb, the vehicle lost control and sped down a slope. It crashed through a railing and ended up plunging head-first into the river.

For a moment, it stood upright on its front before slamming its rear against the steep bank and getting stuck there.

The impact caused all its windows to shatter as it fell back.

A female driver in a black car by the roadside, who was playing with her phone. Immediately fastened her seatbelt and drove away upon seeing the incident.

Incredibly, no injuries were reported.

Witnesses quickly ran to the driver’s aid, who reportedly escaped without any injuries and had climbed out on top of the car, awaiting rescue.

Soon, rescue personnel arrived at the scene.

They used professional rescue tools to tow the vehicle out of the lake.

The owner safely returned to the shore. It is understood that the owner did not sustain serious injuries after the accident, apart from being shocked.

According to witnesses, the accident occurred because the driver had been briefly blinded by the strong sunlight that day, which caused them to misjudge the angle and go off the road.
