A horrified mum saw her five-year-old son dying beside a swimming pool after he was pulled from the water during at day-out treat for customer service workers.

The tragedy took place at a work social event for employees of Brazil’s Citizens Attention Service (SAC).

The event was held at the Associacao Clube dos 40 – Esportes e Amigos sports club in Porto Seguro, Brazil, on 14th January.

Police named the victim as Kaio Lima Alcantara.

His mother – who works for SAC as a cleaner – was away from the swimming pool when he got into trouble.

An eyewitness told local media: “She saw a crowd near the pool and ran to see what it was, noting that some people had already pulled the boy out of the water and were trying to revive him.

“The boy was in the shallow end. Another child realised he was drowning and tried to pull him out.”

Kaio was rushed to the nearby Deputado Luis Eduardo Magalhaes Regional Hospital, but medics were unable to save his life.

Civil Police will investigate the case.

The sports club has said there are no CCTV images of the drowning, as there are no security cameras around the pool for privacy reasons.
