Drunk 63yo English Tourist Drowns In Sea In Bulgaria

A 63-year-old English tourist has drowned in the sea off Bulgaria after jumping into the water after reportedly drinking alcohol.

The incident took place around 5:30 PM on 19th of July in the city of Burgas in west Bulgaria on the Black Sea coast, when the 63-year-old tourist, whose name has not been disclosed, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

He reportedly decided to jump from a concrete slab by a bridge with the intention of swimming to the shore but he is said to have drowned in the sea.

The body of the man was taken from the water and transferred for an autopsy, according to reports. 

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Burgas is the second-largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast and the fourth-largest in Bulgaria.

According to the country’s Ministry of Tourism, over five million foreign tourists are expected to visit Bulgaria this summer.

Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism in Bulgaria show that in the period from June to September 2018 the number of foreign tourists was 5,467,298 including 250,437 British visitors.
