According to the florist, surnamed Chen, the pensioner had come downstairs to put out his refuse and stopped at the entrance of her shop to chat with her.
Chen said she turned to get something and heard a loud “crash”, after which she saw Zhou lying on the ground, his head covered in blood and debris.
The pensioner was taken to Huangpi People’s Hospital and was sadly declared dead after failed attempts to revive him.
According to reports, the concrete slab fell from decorative cladding on the 15th floor of the 17-storey building.
Family members quoted doctors as saying Zhou’s skull had been “shattered” by the freak accident.
His son said: “The building’s managing agent has yet to provide us with a proper explanation.”
Investigations are still ongoing.
