This is the moment a mother and her son are hit by a roof as it crashes into the street during a storm and they lived to tell the tale despite suffering multiple injuries.

The incident took place in the district of Kagithane in Turkey’s largest city Istanbul on Monday 29th November at around 4 PM.

In the footage, the mother and her son can be seen walking in the street when all of a sudden there are hit by what appears to be wooden cladding from a roof.

In the CCTV footage, they are then seen lying on the ground as local shopkeepers rush over to help.

The mother, who has been named as Gunay Suleymanoglu, 55, sustained an injury to her leg and the son, named as Erkan Onur Suleymanoglu, but whose age was not reported, was injured in the arm.

Medics were called to the scene and both of the victims were taken to hospital by ambulance. Media report that they are both in a stable condition.

Local shopkeeper Nizamettin Erturk said: “We went out and saw that the woman and her son were under the boards. Together with friends, we removed the boards.

“We informed the ambulance because the woman’s legs were broken. Both mother and her son were injured. The mother’s legs and her son’s arm were broken.

“We called the police as well, they came together with the ambulance. Then they were taken to a hospital. A great disaster could have happened, God protected them.”

Local media reports that a strong storm in the area uprooted trees, damaged the roofs of houses, and even overturned trucks and a clock tower.
