This is the moment a pair of crashing cars plough into pedestrians at a zebra crossing with one of the vehicles being flipped over onto its roof.
The dramatic accident took place in the Admiralteyskiy district of Russia’s second city of St Petersburg in northwestern Russia and was captured by CCTV cameras around noon at the crossing of Lermontov Avenue and Obvodnoy Kanal embankment.
In the video, a group of pedestrians can be seen walking across the crossing when two cars – a Volkswagen and a Renault – suddenly plough into them.
The white SUV flips onto its roof as it slides into the crossing while the other vehicle’s bonnet appears to be seriously damaged as it comes to a halt.
Another clip shows how the driver of the saloon car had run a red light and crashed into the side of the SUV, sending the other car rolling into the pedestrians.
Local media report that a woman inside the Volkswagen had to be cut out of her vehicle and at least seven people were injured in the incident.
The Renault driver is reportedly in a serious condition.
Netizen ‘leka013’ said: “This is just terrible.”
And ‘04257419’ added: “This reminds me of an accident that took place in Kharkiv, but I really hope that in this case all the affected people will survive. But those two accidents look almost identical.”
