This is the moment a suspected loan shark fire-bombs a house with a Molotov cocktail to allegedly extort money from a family.

The incident was filmed in the town of Jinjang in the Kepong constituency of Kuala Lumpur in western Malaysia and the video was later shared on YouTube where it has been viewed over 25,000 times.

MCA’s Public Services and Complaints Department stalwart Datuk Seri Michael Chong warned citizens that loan sharks are now using extreme measures to extort money from families.

He said in a press conference: “I don’t think they are just ‘Ah Longs’ (loan sharks), but extortionists who target innocent family members who did not borrow money from them.”

According to the official, 55-year-old Lau Tien Sung received a phone call from his 81-year-old father telling him that someone had just thrown a Molotov cocktail into his home. The family then reported the incident to the police.

According to local media, Lau received a call from an unknown man three days later demanding that he settles a 45,000 MYR (8,350 GBP) loan that his younger brother allegedly borrowed.

Chong said: “The man also sent Lau a recording of the fire-bombing incident. He admitted that he was the one who threw the petrol bomb as a warning to Lau’s family that they would be hurt if he failed to pay up.”

The investigation is ongoing.

In the footage, a BMW driver is seen lighting a Molotov cocktail before apparently throwing it at a house entrance where a fire breaks out.
