Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric has released his autobiography and received praise from Sir Alex Ferguson as “an example to young players that talent overcomes physical strength”.

Real Madrid midfielder Modric, 34, released his autobiographical book entitled “My Game” yesterday (Sunday) which was written by Croatian writer Robert Matteoni and has a foreword from Sir Alex Ferguson.

The release comes days after Modric received the Golden Foot in Monaco earlier this month.

The Golden Foot award is given to footballers who show exceptional performances over the age of 29. He is the 17th footballer to receive the award in history.

Modric said: “My desire was to write an autobiography and it has come true.

“I was missing something as a subject to write a book and when the World Cup happened, I decided to do it.”

When asked about the biggest challenge he faced while writing the book, the Croatian international said: “There were a lot of difficult parts in the book.

“The grandfather story was the hardest thing for me. He was a very important person in my childhood.”

In attendance at the ceremony were fellow Real Madrid footballer Marcelo and club legend Emilio Butragueno along with several Croatian footballers.

Manchester United legend Ferguson, was quoted as saying: “In the analysis of his career, especially looking at his childhood, he’s an example for young players that talent overcomes physical strength,”

“Modric is a brilliant example for all young players, irrespective of height, stature and strength.

“My sincere congratulations to a player that defeated every argument about physicality.”

According to Ferguson, Modric would have been the obvious successor to Manchester United legend Paul Scholes but the Croatian international was transferred to Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012 for a reported 30 million GBP.

He has helped the Spanish club win the Champions League four times and La Liga once in his spell at the club.
