Maxi Lopez has advised Mauro Icardi to look for a new club to “prove himself” and “keep growing” despite the Inter Milan striker having stolen his wife and mother of his three children Wanda Nara.
Maxi Lopez, currently a free agent, make the comments when speaking to the Italian radio program, Radio Sportiva, talking about his ex-Sampdoria teammate Mauro Icardi.
Lopez said: “Icardi should try to go somewhere else and continue because the career of a football player is very short and you have to prove yourself. If you want to keep growing and showing new things, you look for another project and you start again, especially when a player spends many years in a team it is hard for him to leave it”.
The comments were made after Icardi’s dispute with Inter Milan’s management led to him being left him out of the matchday squads from 9th February until 4th March and being stripped of the club captaincy.
Antonio Conte, the team’s coach, has said Icardi does feature in his plans and the former Chelsea boss is still eyeing up Manchester United striker, Romelu Lukaku, to fill his role.
Maxi Lopez’s advice comes as a surprise as the two players have a sordid past. They met at Sampdoria in 2012 where they became friends.
Not long after they met reports of the alleged affair between Maxi Lopez’s wife, Wanda Nara, and Mauro Icardi surfaced. Lopez and Nara split in December 2013 and the model subsequently married Icardi just five months later in May 2014.
Icardi has said that he wants to stay at the club but reports suggest he will not feature for the first team.
