These are the touching images showing Diego Maradona playing football as he reunites with his 10-year-old grandson after four years apart.
Footballing legend Diego Maradona was recently visited by his daughter Gianinna Maradona and her 10-year-old son Benjamin Aguero, fathered by Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, in Estancia Chica where Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata, the team Maradona currently manages, train in La Plata in the Buenos Aires province of Argentina.
Argentine newspaper Clarin reported that “after four years, the kid could see his babu”. Babu is a term of endearment the family uses for grandfather.
The images show Maradona and the 10-year-old kicking a ball around as they smile at each other.
One of the pictures shows the two embracing as they pose for the camera as Gianinna Maradona snaps a picture which she captioned: “No words are necessary.”
Local media report Maradona has had a difficult relationship with his daughters Dalma and Gianinna Maradona after he sued his ex-wife and their mother Claudia Villafane in 2015 accusing her of fraud and embezzlement.
However, after the pictures of the La Plata manager and his grandson emerged, Villafane took to social media and said: “Honestly I do not know which of us two (referring to her and Giannina Maradona) is happier about this encounter but that does not matter.
“What I do know is that love cannot be bought and the love you feel from your heart is always present. Even if some people would have you believe otherwise.”
Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero married Gianinna Maradona in 2008. The two had their first and only child, Benjamin Aguero the following year. The couple divorced in 2012 after four years.
Gimnasia Esgrima La Plata are currently having a difficult season with one draw and six defeats in seven matches played.
They are set to face the Argentine giants River Plate this Saturday.
