This grandmother has been jailed for getting on a crowded bus and pummelling the driver over the head with her umbrella for honking her horn at her six-month-old grandson.

The bizarre incident happened in the county of Linquan in East China’s Anhui Province, with culprit Ms Wei later charged with a public order crime.

CCTV video shows the driver of the route 214 bus, Ms Wang, quarrelling with Ms Wei out her window as the grandmother shouts back from the pavement.

According to reports, the bus had been stuck in heavy traffic on 29th August and Ms Wang hooted at cars in front of her to move.

But Ms Wei claimed the horn frightened her six-month-old grandson and allegedly hurled abuse at the driver, who can heard closing the window as the nan bangs on the side of the bus.

Seconds later, however, Ms Wei is seen boarding the bus full of commuters and continuing to argue with Ms Wang, who she begins to whack over the head with her folding umbrella.

The attack, which reportedly came after Ms Wei handed her grandson to a bystander, continues with the driver also grabbing her own brolly to defend herself.

As the video ends, Ms Wei has struck the driver on the head a total of 12 times, despite bus passengers trying hard to restrain her.

The authorities charged Ms Wei with the now common public order crime ‘picking quarrels and provoking trouble’.

She was given 13 days of detention.

Driver Ms Wang is not believed to have been seriously injured.
