These hospital scans show the massive four-inch gash left in a man’s neck after he drunkenly stumbled into his “shatterproof” shower door and it “exploded” in his face as he fell.

Mr Chang, 40, from the city of Nanjing in East China’s Jiangsu Province, said he was drunkenly stumbling into his shower when the door burst into pieces last month.

He recalled: “I slipped and fell on my back, and the glass pierced my neck.

“When I had the door installed, I kept telling them I wanted shatterproof glass.

“They told me it was shatterproof. Apparently not.”

The large piece of glass sliced into the right side of Mr Chang’s neck, but he pulled it out and covered his wound with a towel before a family member took him to Zhongda Hospital for treatment.

Shocking scans taken in the early hours of 26th November show a large shadow on his neck where his flesh used to be joined.

Doctor Zhu Xin said: “There was very big trauma.

“From the side to the back of his neck, there was a gash measuring more than 10 centimetres (4 inches) long.

“There was also a lot of blood. He lost more than 1,000 millilitres in surgery alone.

“Had the glass nicked his carotid artery or jugular vein, he would’ve been beyond rescuing.”

Emergency surgery to stop Mr Chang’s bleeding and close his gaping wound took just under five hours, the hospital revealed on 18th December.

The homeowner has since been discharged from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
