Lucky Adam Meloche, 33 – from the village of Spring Lake, in Ottawa County, Michigan State, USA – had made a modest win playing a low jackpot game and then decided to invest the cash.

He said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Michigan Lottery: “I had been pretty lucky playing Club Keno and when I cashed my ticket, I decided to buy a few Cashwords.

“The second one I scratched was the USD 1 million [GBP 812,230] winner.”

Adam reportedly went for the Cashword Times 20 game and made the purchase at the Wesco gas station, located at 502 West Savidge Street.

He explained: “When I scratched the ticket off, I must have looked it over 100 times to make sure I was reading it right.

“I remembered to scan it with my phone and when it said I had won USD 1 million [GBP 812,230], I was shocked.

“I called everyone I could think of to share the good news, but no one was answering their phones!

“I was celebrating so loud; I woke my one-year-old daughter up from her nap!”

Delighted Adam collected his prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters at 101 E Hillsdale Street in the city of Lansing on Tuesday, 21st March.

He chose a one-time payment after being offered the prize as an annuity over 20 years and a lump sum of USD 634,000 (GBP 514,332)

Now he plans to use the money to buy a new truck, take a golf trip, and spoil his wife and daughter.

He said: “Winning is a huge relief but it gives me a lot to think about in terms of what to do with the money.

“I’m going to be smart with it, but I am also going to splurge a little on my wife and daughter.

“We’re going to take a trip to Chicago for a shopping spree soon.”

Michigan Lottery officials revealed that people playing Cashword Times 202 have won more than USD 34 million (GBP 27.5 million) ever since the game launched in September 2022.
